JAHONG

He got up before sunrise. The morning was fresh, the sea glittered like diamonds under the light of the sun, like every morning outside his hut. It was a sad  but hopeful day. The day of the departure. To live behind his hometown, a village in East Timor and embark in the dream of a better life. Indonesia, a land of better jobs and more dreams. The trip lasted days and upon arrival, he felt a stranger. The new neighbors were kindhearted and joyful, but in his heart, home is where the loved ones are. He built a little house, and slowly his life. Now, he spends most days at the gas station where he works. He waits for the truck drivers to come, warms them up with a coffee every night, has an evening chat and sees them to go. Jahong is still a stranger, after so many years. He has not found home yet.
